Working on a variety of bespoke .NET systems in a digital agency environment for the past 5 and a half years has allowed me the opportunity become quite skilled in a number of areas.
I have been fortunate enough to have been given much responsibility in my career and have been able to lead the development on many projects. Typically, with a design and specification of requirements in hand, I will craft all aspects of a system, including: database, infrastructure, code behind, client side & styling. I have always loved creating websites, and I think this enthusiasm is what fuels my ability to learn the wide range of skills necessary to fit the description of a Full Stack Developer.
Returning to NXT has allowed me to vastly extend my usual responsibility by managing a small team and becoming the primary contact for a couple of client accounts. In my new role I am also able to influence the way the development team works and feel my contributions have had a positive impact on the team’s effectiveness.
Despite the additional respECsibility I still actively develop many projects, including a custom internal CMS and a bespoke application form used by Check a trade to sign up new customers on site.
The most rewarding part of my role is evaluating and mentoring junior developers. Influencing the growth of those new to web development is something I hope to be able to continue throughout my career.
Working as part of a skilled team I was responsible for developing key areas of bespoke .NET internet application software.
During my time at Volume I worked in a team of 3 as a mid-senior developer on projects including: HP Sprout (http://sprout.hp.com), Epson Virtual World (http://www.virtualepson.com), Virgin Media Virtual Consultant (Internal Tool)
Developing large scale systems, managing clients and their projects were just a few of my primary responsibilities.
I led the development on a major bespoke multi-site CMS system which I created primarily using C#, ASP/MVC.NET and Entity framework. The system integrates with Ooyala's API for on demand video streaming and serves thousands of manageable contents to regular daily traffic of around 20k user's.
As well as bespoke application development, my responsibilities vary throughout different projects including; Umbraco development, API builds and mobile development. Outside of project work I also take responsibility in other areas of the company to help ensure it continues to improve, such as influencing coding standards and refining production methods. I have had the opportunity to develop my leadership skills by supporting and mentoring less experienced developers within the company and I am given the opportunity to put forward innovative idea's to develop the team.
I am responsible for liaising directly with one of our clients, Sony, and I am able to do this in a confident and professional manner, for which I have often received positive feedback.
Part of my responsibility was building and supporting SharePoint 2007-2010 & .NET systems as part of a larger team.
I continued to gain experience in .NET technologies and learnt to work effectively in a collaborative way. I became a competent SharePoint developer, but decided to focus on bespoke .NET application development.
Within this role I was tasked with leading the development for many projects and for supporting existing systems, including Interflora’s mobile web site and AON’s risk surveying tool. As a great trouble shooter I developed a skill in isolating problems and finding resolutions in varying systems without specific knowledge of the system.
.NET Content Management Systems and SQL Databases were part of my everyday tasks and this has led to my specialism in this area.
